Castles, did someone say castles..
We are fortunate to have amazing historical places through the ages locally
From ancient settlements, world class castles and eerie remains
From ancient settlements, world class castles and eerie remains
Combine a beautiful walk with the finest iron age settlement in North Wales
Tre'r Ceiri Hillfort is just a 2.5 mile walk from our cottage. Not a flat walk, the clue's in the name.. We've shown a walk of 5.5 miles taking in two of the amazing hills local to Trefor. Yr Eifl of Yr Eifl Quarry fame and the Tre'r Ceiri hill.
Either drive closer and talk the winding walk up the hill for the amazing views of the sea on both side of the Llyn Peninsula or talk the full energetic walk to and from the house.
Caernarfon Castle and walled town
This is one of the finest castles in Britain and beyond. A fabulous representation of power when built by King Edward 1 in 1282.
About a 20 minute drive away and has everything you need as well as a wealth of attractions. Also a great stopping off point on the way to Anglesey.
The eerie Trefor Quarry
Whilst not a castle, the Trefor quarry could be mistaken for a mythical or fantasy remains of a castle. Believe it or not, right on our doorstep was at one time the largest granite quarry in the world. It looks like it could have been a mountain hideaway in Lord of the rings... This is where the granite curling stones beloved of the successful Scottish curling teams comes from.
It also defines the beach around the base of the hill Yr Eifl that is sites on. The beach is made of large granite pebbles and makes for a satisfying stress free walk looking for different coloured pebbles and quartz amongst the typical grey pebbles.
